The area of English is made up by the three areas of reading, writing and spoken language. Basic skills in this area are fundamental to our pupils in preparing them for life after Longcause and we place upmost importance on developing and extending these skills in purposeful and realistic ways.

At KS4 pupils follow a Functional approach to English and Year 11 pupils will leave with an accredited outcome in English Functional Skills which will range from Entry Level 1 through to Level 2.

Further success at Key Stage 4 with 2 Year 11 pupils achieving well in GCSE English. Also all of our Year 11 pupils achieved Functional Skills English between entry level 2 and Level 2 (2 pupils at EL2, 6 pupils at EL3, 6 pupils at Level 1 and 3 pupils at Level 2) - Fantastic!
The theme for this year's Writing Week was Biographies and using questions to find out information about someone else. You will have seen some of outcomes from this week on Seesaw and on our school Facebook page.
Previously we have covered themes such as Playscripts were pupils created and acted out their own Longcause dramas; 'All About Me', where pupils contributed towards a 50th Anniversary book with each page being about a pupil at Longcause 50 years on from its first day, and 'British Values'.
