The area of English is made up by the three areas of reading, writing and spoken language. Developing skills in this area are fundamental to our pupils in preparing them for life after Longcause and we place utmost importance on developing and extending these skills in purposeful and realistic ways.

To teach early reading across the school we use the Read Write Inc phonics scheme. All pupils starting from EYFS begin on the scheme. Pupils are responding fantastically to this programme and we see great progress in their reading and writing. You can find out more about RWI by clicking the link below. 

Some of our pupils are learning on the ARK Mastery English schemes of work. You can find out more about this scheme using the link below. 

At KS4 pupils will be given the opportunity to achieve an accreditation in English.
