Learning for Life

Love of Reading

At Longcause we prioritise reading and promote a love of reading from EYFS through to year 11.

In addition to a daily 1 hour RWI/ARK English Mastery session, we have a timetabled 20 minute Storytime session for all pupils daily. In addition to this primary children have at least one other story daily.

During the storytime session, pupils are immersed in the story, learning new vocabulary and being encouraged to use this new vocabulary.

Each class has a book section in which these books are displayed for pupils to access, as well as take home if they wish. Other subjects also include subject specific books within the lesson input to immerse children further in a range of texts. These books are also available for pupils in their book corners.

We send books home with all children every week. Children take home a decodable reading book matched to their reading ability, that they are able to decode themselves. Pupils also take home a library book, which is a book that they can share with their family at home. Books are clearly stickered for you at home so that you can identify what support your child needs.

We love these comments in one of our pupils' reading diaries!
