Longcause Community Special School Learning for Life

Travel training

We, at Longcause, view Travel Training as a first step linking Longcause to the outside world. This year in particular, with additional staff being made available to introduce and train students in years 9, 10 and 11 in the skills needed to become independent travellers. Independence is crucial, not only in allowing our students take part in activities outside of school, but also to boost their self esteem and confidence, whilst ensuring that students are safe and have a knowledge base that will protect them if events become unpredictable.
Students learn about how they must prepare for each journey they are to make, about timetables and money, about maps, about strategies needed for specific situations and also about how being independent travellers brings with it identified responsibilities.
