I became very interested in working with pupils with SEN before my PGCE and started to volunteer in some different special schools across Plymouth. Therefore, after graduating from my Primary PGCE at the University of Plymouth, I started my position at Longcause in January 2012 as an NQT. I began teaching year 11 pupils but have since taught a range of pupils in Middle/Upper school and currently have a mixed age class in Middle school.
My role has changed regularly since the time I have started. I have previously been the subject lead for MFL as well as lead for after school clubs. In 2014, I began the role of Maths subject leader which I have continued to lead ever since. This year, I have also embraced my new role as head of Middle school and joined the Extended Leadership Team (ELT). This has been a great learning curve for me and I thrive to be a successful leader where I provide effective communication and support for adults and pupils across the school.
Due to my Primary training, starting at Longcause was a very different experience. I have adapted to working with smaller class groups, with larger numbers of staff and I thoroughly enjoy what we do. At Longcause, relationships are everything. Building safe and trusting relationships with pupils and adults mean that we work together as part of a team to provide the best possible learning environment. I really enjoy being part of a place where we always aim to reflect and improve in every aspect of our school life.
